My name is Adrian Tansiongco, son of the President of the Guides and Porters Association in Magdiwang, the jump-off point to Mount Guiting-Guiting.

The story of Mt. Guiting-Guiting’s first ascent is part of our heritage. In the early 1980s, the U.P. Mountaineers blazed trails through its virgin forest, creating the path that would lead to the summit. On June 15–19, 1982, a historic expedition of 22 climbers, including 8 women, made the second attempt to reach the peak. After days of trailblazing, Kim Valino, Bubut Tan Torres, Mon Ruiz, and Edwin Gatia became the first to conquer the summit — a moment celebrated by the people of Magdiwang with cheers, lights, and festive greetings.

This legacy of courage, adventure, and community inspired me to create The Ascenders — a platform to share the beauty of Sibuyan Island, support local guides, and honor the history of this majestic mountain.
